The end of the Mayan calendar is going out with a bang here in Connecticut, apocalyptic, hmm hardly not however, I have time on my hands recovering from a surgical procedure and thinking about all that has occurred recently in the Northeast, and in particular here in Connecticut. the aftermath of the Superstorm known as Sandy. Now the new tern that will remain in everyone's mind for years to come, Newtown. How do we comprehend this act of madness, how do we move onward and what lessons are taken from this event. Will more laws restricting weapons make a difference, maybe laws restricting the capacity of those particular weapons? What will work so that this kind of event will be less common, as I believe that we will never eliminate the chance of it ever happening again? Some questions will not be answered in the short term but will haunt us for years to come. Yet, we must move on, we must breathe, we need to live.

However, there is a need felt by many to make a difference. People want to show compassion, empathy, people want to cry, grieve, and plead for greater tolerance. Some need to show their emotions by contributing to this outpouring of grief by sending flowers or stuffed animals, it is cathartic. Watching the local news some sent money to local businesses in Newtown to buy everyone a coffee. They felt the need to do something. However, today here in Connecticut, it is stormy and all those flowers and stuffed animals are getting ruined.  I read the local paper, the Connecticut Post, and they presented 10 cases where local people in need could use assistance in their lives. This tragedy in Newtown inspired me to select one of these cases to offer a contribution. My point is that many will be inspired to do something, think about the way that you can really make a difference in your community, and how are you tried to make a difference.

If you want to post here what you did, that would be great, we can all be inspired by one another. I like the fact that nationally, Ann Curry of NBC News started the 26 Acts of Kindness Facebook link, which then links to the following address, http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/12/18/15999109-if-you-do-good-youll-feel-good-ann-curry-explains-origins-of-26acts-of-kindness?lite? If you read this, and want to note something that you were inspired to do, make a note of it here. Be anonymous if you like, or not. Inspire others in whatever ways you can think. How are you inspired to make a difference in the way others live their lives?
